This is the Little Spaceman Lamp, a sculpture I created through several iterations over the last few years. It began as a polymer clay sculpture, which was duplicated using a matrix mold to produce plastic slush castings.
I love the aesthetics of space, especially space suits. However, space exploration is alienating and isolating. The most isolated human in history was an astronaut. Colonel Worden, the command module pilot on NASA’a Apollo 11, spent several days 2,235 miles away from the nearest human being while his crew mates were exploring the surface of the Moon.
